Believing in Allah on Evidence

In the Name of Allah the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

The Universe:

There is a delicate side to this issue, and it is that Allah the Almighty has the knowledge of everything, including the entire Universe –its galaxies, the sun, the moon, the seas, the heavens, the fish and the birds, the plants and the animals.
If we take into consideration the mosquito for example, we notice that when it alights on one’s hand, one kills it without a shred of guilt about having killed a living creature; nor does one have the feeling of having done something wrong, because one looks at it as something absolutely insignificant. Yet, this trivial creature has a radar, blood analysis system, blood liquidizing system, anesthetics system, a wing able to flutter four thousand times per second, three hearts, suction cups, claws, and intelligence, as the mosquito hides behind the curtain or the bed when you wake up and turn on the light, can you see it then? It hides, as it fully knows that you are angry with it and will intend to kill it, so it hides where you can’t see it. And this is what this trivial mosquito is like.
If we consider the whale –it weighs about 130 tons; it is 30-40 meters long; it has 50 tons of fat only; another 40 tons of flesh; 30 tons of bones; it can yield 90 barrels of oil; its food weighs up to 40 tons, and it breastfeeds its baby 300 kilogram of milk in one nursing, that is, one ton of milk per day. So, has the whale been created without its Creator’s knowledge?
Take the bird –I’ve read in a magazine about flying and planes that even the most advanced airplanes are not on a level with a common bird. You fly by plane with other 400 passengers, and it is as if you were in a city where you can eat, drink, and relax, and where there are a lot of seats, and this plane flies as high as 40 thousand feet. Doesn’t this plane have a designer? So does the bird, which is even something greater than the plane.
Take the seas, the clouds, the rain, the mountains, the minerals, and physics; they are all created by Allah’s knowledge. On reading any book about physics, you will perceive that the last pages mention in small print the biography to that book. Physics consists of numerous sciences, such as chemical physics, the study of electricity, sound and heat, nuclear physics. Furthermore, there is organic chemistry, astronomy and medicine; the study of animals, fishes and birds, and all of them make up a very small part of Allah’s knowledge. What man did was only to discover and develop these sciences. Allah the Almighty says in the Noble Qur’an:

( And they ask you (O Muhammad) concerning the Ruh (the Spirit); Say: “The Ruh (the Spirit): it is one of the things, the knowledge of which is only with my Lord.)

[Surat Al Israa, ayah 85]

And He says:

(Allah! La ilaha illa Huwa (there is no god but He), the Ever Living, the One Who sustains and protects all that exists. Neither slumber, nor sleep overtake Him. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on earth. Who is he that can intercede with Him except with His Permission? He knows what happens to them (His creatures) in this world, and what will happen to them in the Hereafter. And they will never compass anything of His Knowledge except that which He wills. His Kursi extends over the heavens and the earth, and He feels no fatigue in guarding and preserving them. And He is the Most High, the Most Great.)

[Surat Al Baqarah, ayah 255]

In any big library you will find 100 thousand books about the body, there might be a six-volume book (in small print) about the heart only. By the way, I was reading a book about the human heart two days ago, believe me, it contains such tremendously puzzling things, and there is yet another book about lungs, the brain, the muscles, the bones, and all that is part of Allah’s knowledge, and constitutes His Religion, and the question to be asked is: Is it possible that Allah’s Religion is wrong, or contradictory, or has things that can’t be true? The answer to that is: Impossible, it is Allah’s Creation, and Allah’s Words.

Science:

There must be harmony between Allah’s Creation and Allah’s Words; there must be accuracy in His Words, His legislation, His Messengers, and His Qur’an. What I mean to say is that the truth will never fear scrutiny, no matter how advanced science gets. Even 2000 years from now, or 5000 years, science will never come up with a scientific fact that contradicts the Qur’an, simply because the Qur’an is Allah’s Word, and science is His Creation, hence, it is impossible for science to discover anything that goes against religion; more than that, every advance in science marks an advance towards religion.
Once I met a surgeon who told me that every time he deals with an incurably infected wound, he applies honey on it, and it takes only two days to heal. Glory be to Allah, Who says in his Noble Qur’an:

(Then, eat of all fruits, and follow the ways of your Lord made easy (for you).” There comes forth from their bellies, a drink of varying colour wherein is healing for men. Verily, in this is indeed a sign for people who think.)

[Surat Al Nahl, ayah 69]

I realized then that rather than nutrient honey is a medicine. Better still, it is, as scientists put it, “a whole pharmacy”.
Hence, the fact doesn’t fear scrutiny, so never fear to read an article that might seem to go against an ayah in the Qur’an, because these are the Words of Allah, the Creator of this Universe, and it would be irrational for Him to contradict His Creation.
When you arouse people’s awareness of Allah Most High, tell them: “Read whatever you want, go wherever you want, and debate with whoever you want, the truth will always be truth and falsehood will always be falsehood.”
Those who don’t read have a real problem and the most serious thing a society can be faced with is somebody who thinks that they are knowledgeable, while, in fact, they aren’t.
Again, the truth doesn’t fear scrutiny, and you shouldn’t dread traveling to the capitals of Kufr, and don’t fear for your faith when you meet topnotch scientists. If we had time, I would elaborate more on this point, as there are many atheists who admit, after having read some of its ayaat, that the words of the Qur’an are supernal.
For example, recent scientific research found out that the land of Arabia was once, thousands of years ago, all rivers and gardens. How did they come to know that? On account of having found whole cities buried under the sands of the Rub’ al Khali (the Empty Quarter), huge tree trunks, fossils, and river beds. Also, science, with all its advanced data, predicts that rain lines are moving towards Arabia, the fact which will bring rivers and gardens back there. The geologist who read the hadith giving this information converted to Islam because he realized that it was impossible for the man (meaning the Prophet) who lived 1400 years ago, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, to have this kind of information about the earth’s past and what these lands will be like in thousands of years’ time, unless he was a Messenger of Allah. As a mere man of his age, he would never have the capacity to acquire the knowledge of the environment he had.
The hadith we are talking about is as follows: The Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said:

Before the Resurrection Day, money will be so abundant that a man will want to pay his zakat but will be unable to find anyone to take it from him, and the Arabs’ land will turn into gardens and rivers as it used to be.

[Agreed upon]

Also in the Qur’an there are such indications, highlighted by each advance in science that takes place, and it was Imam Ali, may Allah be pleased with him, who said:

There are ayaat in the Qur’an which have not been interpreted yet, and only science will be able to interpret them the right way.

This statement doesn’t fear scrutiny at all, as our religion is rational and is built on science, as Allah is All-Knowing, and so is His Religion.

Is it possible for science to contradict the Deen (religion)?

The evidence we find in the Deen, which is based on facts, and scientific results, which are definite, are compatible, and they definitely meet at the point of truth because the truth is one in both ideological issues and the Creation. To illustrate the point –if you draw a straight line between two points and you want to draw another straight line between them, the two lines will be congruent, unlike the case when one of the lines doesn’t pass through one of the two points. Suppose, though, that you faced the case of a contradiction between science and the Deen, how would you explain this phenomenon? We can offer three explanations of such a case:

1. Scientific research is still in the experimental phase:

Scientific research may not have come up to the level of an established fact and is still a theory. This is the case of Darwin’s theory, which never reached the level of the absolute evidence, and which goes against what is mentioned in the Qur’an, being still an unproved theory. More than that, the scientists in Europe have actually rejected it and mock at those who talk about it. Hence, if there is a contradiction between science and the Deen, this may be due to the fact that research remains a hypothesis.

2. The transmission is not authenticated:

The transmission (hadith) is not authentic.

3. Misunderstanding our Deen has led to contradiction:

There may have been an error in the hadith interpretation and its comprehension.
Hence, the reasons behind what looks like a contradiction between science and a transmission can be three: misinterpreted text, unauthenticated text, or the scientific research being still in the experimental or theoretical phase.

In case of a contradiction it is science that should be doubted:

Imam Al Ghazzali said:

He who has become acquainted with those facts, and who comes to doubt the Deen when he is told that they go against the shari’ah, will be belittling the Deen.

Don’t jump into conclusions if science contradicts the Deen. On the other hand, don’t deny evidence based on scientific fact to defend the Deen, as the Deen will never contradict established scientific facts.

The day when the Prophet’s son Ibrahim died coincided with the eclipse of the sun, so the companions hastily suggested that “the sun is eclipsed because Ibrahim has died,” which the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, disapproved by saying:
“The sun and the moon are two Signs amongst the Signs of Allah. They do not eclipse because of someone’s death or life. So when you see them, invoke Allah and pray till the eclipse is over.”

[Agreed upon]

This is a Sign of the Universe; don’t defend the Deen by denying correct scientific facts as they are compatible with the Deen.
If we say: There are earthquakes, and there are explanations for their existence, such as that the movement in the internal layers of the earth leads to a vibration in the crust, and it is a complicated thing to explain. Therefore, I would say that earthquakes are from Allah, and this is the right thing to say. Thus, earthquakes have a geological scientific explanation and a religious one, and both are compatible since earthquakes take place because of the earth disturbance, but the reason behind the reasons is Allah the Almighty –this is something easy to explain.
If you say that an earthquake hit a village and destroyed it because it was corrupted, that is true, and it is accepted by our ‘aqidah. On the other hand, if you say that the earthquake is a result of a disturbance in the earth crust, of a displacement between its layers, of a leak of the lava from the earth’s core to the crust, or on account of a volcano formation, it is also true.
Hence, science doesn’t contradict the Deen. On the contrary, it confirms it.
It follows then that if anyone’s son gets sick, he should be taken to the doctor, and given medication. So we should act rationally, putting our trust in Allah, and this is our Deen.
You have to know that, from the present day until Doomsday, no scientific fact will contradict the Qur’an because it is Allah’s Word and the Universe is His Creation, and there is no way that they could contradict each other.

We should soundly believe that our Deen will never get affected by scientific proofs:

If you present the evidence of Allah’s existence to someone righteous who is already acquainted with Him, is close to Him, happy with and inspired by this closeness, then you will be, by doing that, pulling him one step behind, exactly as if you were teaching a university student the alphabet all over again. Therefore, the truth shouldn’t fear scrutiny, which means, your faith must stand the trial, and if you introduce it to an atheist, you ought to be able to provide him with irrefutable evidence. Verily, the future, till Doomsday, will never reveal a scientific fact that contradicts any of the ayaat of the Qur’an.
Again, the truth doesn’t fear scrutiny. For example, if you have correctly solved a mathematic problem, following the laws derived from postulates, you won’t object to anyone looking at your examination paper. Yet, if this problem has been solved through cheating, and the mathematical process has been wrong, although the result is right, you will hesitate to let anyone have a look at your paper, and all you will be able to say is that you have passed the exam and that’s it. Hence, who is the one who doesn’t fear that anyone should have a look at his procedure of solving the problem? It is he who is sure that it is correct. Therefore, you should be sure that you have the truth, and the truth doesn’t fear scrutiny.

One’s deen shouldn’t be built on myths:

There are many different kinds of worship all around the world, one of them being the way of those who hold a cow and its dung as sacred. When one of these worshippers should travel anywhere, he will surely be ashamed of introducing his religion to other people, and that is because it is irrational, it is based on myths, impurity, delusions, and misguidance.
Can you imagine someone putting cow’s dung on his forehead on a feast day, or letting the cow go anywhere and eat whatever it likes when people go hungry, or burying it in respectable ceremonies while people are cremated? On the other hand, a believer in Allah Most High is sure of his faith, anytime, anywhere, in any epoch and country, under any circumstance and before anyone, and that is because it is the religion of the truth, of honesty, and of transparency.
Hence, I hope that this concept is clear to you: The truth doesn’t fear scrutiny.

Falsehood is bound to perish whatever form it assumes:

I think there are more than a million of false statements on earth, such as “the end justifies the means”, and thus a woman aiming at earning huge income might prostitute herself following this false statement, achieving, in this way, her objective regardless of the means. The atheistic theory is false, and so is the existential theory which encourages carpe diem (enjoyment of the pleasures of the moment without concern for the future). Those who exclusively care about the present moment are like a man standing in front of delicious food that doesn’t belong to him, yet he eats it, fulfilling his desire at any cost, by hook or by crook, not caring about anything; he doesn’t pay attention to what is prohibited or permissible, to what is allowed or what is not allowed as admitted by the Deen. He who follows one’s desires at any cost and by any means is existentialism, so it is false.
Again, there are millions of false statements around the world, and they have one thing in common, and when Allah Most High talks about minds at a loss, His description is inclusive and sufficient. He says:

(And say: “Truth has come and falsehood has vanished. Surely! Falsehood is ever bound to vanish.)

[Surat Al Israa, ayah 81]

Therefore, Allah describes all kinds of falsehood, whether ideological, behavioral, social, or man-made systems and laws, in one word, whatever is “batil”. He says:

(Surely! Batil is ever bound to vanish.)

[Surat Al Israa, ayah 81]

There is only one truth and it doesn’t fear scrutiny:

Would you fear saying that the earth is spherical? Absolutely not! That is because we have its photos, and there are people who have seen it with their own eyes. Would you, then, fear telling any scientist in the advanced countries that the earth is spherical? It is now an established fact, and that is how your faith in Allah Most High should be –the absolute truth, a postulate, and a correct fact that doesn’t fear scrutiny. Not very long time ago, there were scientists and clergymen who insisted that the earth was flat; do you think such ideas fear scrutiny? If somebody says that the earth is flat, this is not the truth, it can be falsehood, and falsehood fears scrutiny and will be put down.
Allah Most High says in the Noble Qur’an:

(And after that He spread the earth;)

[Surat Al Naziat, ayah 30]

If we have a gilded piece which happens to be made of tin, will you be careful in using it and protecting it from scratching? The answer is in the affirmative, and that is because it is forgery not real gold, whereas you use a gold piece and you don’t fear scratches because it is genuine. This is a very important point, the truth doesn’t fear scrutiny, and I am repeating this statement a lot because I want it to be very clear to you, you should know that when you are on the right track, then you shouldn’t be afraid. Allah the Almighty says:

(Say (O Muhammad to these polytheists, pagans, etc.) “Who gives you provision from the heavens and the earth?” Say: “Allah. And verily, (either) we or you are rightly guided or in a plain error.”)

[Surat Sabaa, ayah 24]

Pay attention to this objective presentation, since there is only one truth. It means –either we are following the truth while you are following falsehood, or it is the other way around, and the debate will decide. I used to occupy a management position in the educational department, and I used to make use of the famous statement, which is: “Either I convince you, or you convince me”. Hence, the truth is guidance to all of us. So, if I give you an order, either you convince me it is wrong and I will withdraw it, or I convince you it is true and you will have to see it through to the letter. Allah the Almighty said:

((either) we or you are rightly guided or in a plain error.)

[Surat Sabaa, ayah 24]

There is no third way, it is either the truth or the falsehood, and there is only one truth.
Two people came to a judge to arbitrate between them. The first one rationally explained the case, and the judge said he was right, then the second also explained the case, and the judge said he was right, too. The judge’s wife happened to be listening to what was going on, and she asked her husband: “What kind of judgment is that?” And the judge said to her: “You are right, too.” In this case we have three truths. This, however, is unacceptable, as the truth is either with me or with you.

(either) we or you are rightly guided or in a plain error.)

[Surat Sabaa, ayah 24]

Pay attention to this statement. Allah Most High says:

(Invite (mankind, O Muhammad) to the Way of your Lord (i.e. Islam) with wisdom (i.e. with the Divine Inspiration and the Qur’an) and fair preaching, and argue with them in a way that is better. Truly, your Lord knows best who has gone astray from His Path, and He is the Best Aware of those who are guided.)

[Surat Al Nahl, ayah 125]

Scientific research leads to faith:

Scientific research leads to the belief in Allah. Even if one is unconcerned about the belief in Allah and faith is never on their mind, and one starts preparing for a PHD in a developed country, they will be spontaneously led towards the belief in Allah the Great when they have access to the latest scientific discoveries. Only the truth is able to put you in the company of the believers in Allah, whether you like it or not, and Imam Al Ghazzali mentioned that by saying:

We didn’t seek knowledge in Allah’s Cause, but knowledge refused to be but in Allah’s Cause.

If someone studies Islam to put it down, they are likely to convert to Islam, and this exactly what has happened to the most aggressive enemies of Islam. They do study it in order to put it down, but they wind up submitting to it, as they find the truth in the process.
Neutral scientific research leads to belief in Allah, and the proof is in the following ayah:

(Allah bears witness that La ilaha illa Huwa (there is no god but He), and the angels, and those having knowledge (also give this witness); (He is always) maintaining His creation in Justice. La ilaha illa huwa (there is no other god but He), the All-Mighty, the All-Wise.)

[Surat Al Imran, ayah 18]

Hence, those who have knowledge bear witness that la ilaha illa Allah (There is no other god but Allah) and that He maintains His creation with Justice.

Only those firmly established in knowledge really fear Allah:

Allah the Almighty said:

(And of men and ad-dawab (moving living creatures, beasts, etc.), and cattle, in like manner of various colours. It is only those who have knowledge among His slaves that fear Allah. Verily, Allah is All-Mighty, Oft-Forgiving.”)

[Surat Fatir, ayah 28]

Not only does science make scientists believe in Allah but it also leads them to fear Him. When someone gets to know that the nuclear plant is dangerous since it emits lethal radiations, do you think they will get closer to it or get as far away as they can from it? Of course, they will get as far away as they can from it. Also, there are dangerous products used in agriculture which cannot be purchased unless the buyer presents a written clearance stating that he is familiar with their use, and I’ve heard of someone who applied one of these substances on his trees and afterward he cleaned his face, did the cooking, and ate with his wife and five children, and they all ended up dead.
Therefore, knowing that something is dangerous is not enough. What is necessary is that you should follow the instructions to avoid its fatal effect. Hence, knowledge will surely lead you to following the instructions. Allah Most High says:

(It is only those who have knowledge among His slaves that fear Allah.)

[Surat Fatir, ayah 28]

Those who have knowledge are the only ones who fear Allah. Allah the Almighty said:

(Is one who is obedient to Allah, prostrating himself or standing (in prayer) during the hours of the night, fearing the Hereafter and hoping for the Mercy of his Lord (like one who disbelieves)? Say: “Are those who know equal to those who know not?” It is only men of understanding who will remember (i.e. get a lesson from Allah’s Signs and Verses).)

[Surat Al Zumar, ayah 9]

If you are extremely hungry and are offered two options, the first one being food of the best quality, excellently served and containing all kinds of meats, and the other one being food that smells decidedly off, is there any way to make these two options equal? And remember, I am not saying that the option lies in choosing between two kinds of meat, beef or sheep for instance, I wish it did. No, the option is between the best of meats and the one that has gone off.
Allah says in the Qur’an:

(Are those who know equal to those who know not?)

[Surat Al Zumar, ayah 9]

Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds

Dear visitors

Welcome to our website which addresses the basics of Islamic religion and belief in Allah and His messenger, for those who want to differentiate between the reality of Islam and what some people think about it.
